Volunteer program

The work is real. So is the person who opens the kit.

Volunteers run the departments that turn donated supplies into kits a partner can hand over. Every role is unpaid, and local packing days are our Orange County student volunteer opportunities.

The work behind the work

You would be building the organization, not just the kits

Every department is staffed by volunteers. The kits are the visible part; the systems behind them are the work.

  • Real ownership

You are handed a department goal and the room to move it, not a busywork list.

  • Skills that carry

Outreach, research, grant writing, design, code and people operations, learned by doing them for real.

  • A team that shows up

Work beside people who take the commitment seriously, and build a record you can point to.

Pick your department

Six departments. One operation.

Each department owns a piece of the work. Pick one and see exactly what you would be responsible for.

Community Impact & Partnerships

Build the relationships that carry kits from our hands to the people who need them.

What you might do

  • Reach out to schools, businesses and community organizations
  • Help new collection-site hosts get set up
  • Keep in touch with nonprofit partners about what they need

You will build: Communication, relationship-building and professional outreach.

Packing days and events in person

Volunteer questions

Who can volunteer?

Our volunteer program is open to students and community members of all ages. Remote roles are open to anyone, anywhere in the world, and local event volunteering happens across Orange County.

What are the remote roles like?

Remote roles are long-term, computer-based projects in teams like community impact and partnerships, research and development, fundraising and grants, communications, technology, and human resources and volunteer services. You can see open roles on our Idealist page.

Do I need experience?

No. We care about curiosity and follow-through. You will learn the skills as you go, alongside a team.

How much time does it take?

Remote roles are long-term commitments, usually a few hours a week. Local events are one-off shifts. Tell us what you can give and we will find the right fit.

Can I volunteer if I am not in Orange County?

Yes. Our remote roles are open to anyone in the world. Only the local event work is limited to Orange County.

How do students earn community service hours in Orange County?

Students earn community service hours by volunteering at our Orange County packing days and events. After you serve, email us and we will confirm the hours you completed so you can submit them to your school.

What are good community service projects for schools?

A school can host a supply drive, a kit packing day, or a note writing table. Each one counts as a group community service project and ends with finished care kits for local partners.

What is volunteer packing care kits like?

Volunteers check that every item is new and sealed, sort supplies by kit type, and assemble kits at packing stations. Each finished kit gets a handwritten note before it is sealed.

Your first step could become someone else's fresh start.

Volunteer, give, host a bin, or tell a friend. Every bit of effort turns into care.
